The choice of yellow light for lighting in the yellow light cleanroom is not for aesthetics, but based on a combination of scientific and humanistic considerations:
01 Avoid accidental exposure of photoresist
In the photolithography process of semiconductor manufacturing, a material that is extremely sensitive to light - photoresist - is used. The light-sensitive range of photoresist is usually between 200nm and 500nm (covering ultraviolet, violet, and blue light). However, the wavelength of yellow light is longer, generally ranging from 550nm to 600nm, which is not within the light-sensitive range of photoresist. Therefore, using yellow light lighting can ensure that the photoresist is not accidentally exposed during the preparation and processing stages, thus guaranteeing the accuracy of the photolithography process and the yield of the products.
02 Reduce reflection and glare
Yellow light is more gentle compared to white light or other colors of light, and is less likely to cause dazzling reflections or glare on the wafers and equipment surfaces. This helps improve the stability and accuracy of precise operations such as alignment in photolithography, reducing manufacturing defects caused by light interference.
03 Improve working environment and protect personnel health
From the perspective of human factors engineering, yellow light is more friendly to the human eye. Operators working in the dust-free room for a long time can effectively reduce eye fatigue and irritation in the yellow light environment, improving work comfort and efficiency. In contrast, other light spectra that are less sensitive to light are not suitable:
Red light: Long-term exposure to red light can easily make people feel agitated and is not conducive to detail recognition. Green light: Under green light illumination, people's skin color will appear very unnatural, affecting visual judgment and mental health. Blue light: Its wavelength is close to ultraviolet light, and there is a risk of causing incorrect exposure of photoresist.
04 Protect color-sensitive materials
Yellow light can ensure that some color-sensitive chemicals or materials do not lose their original physical and chemical properties due to interference from other light sources during the production process.
05 Other features of the yellow light cleanroom
In addition to the special light source, the yellow light cleanroom also has all the characteristics of ordinary high-grade dust-free rooms:
Extremely high cleanliness: Through efficient air filtration systems (such as FFU, ULPA filters), strict temperature and humidity control, and positive pressure design, it effectively removes dust, bacteria, and harmful gases from the air, providing a pure environment for precision manufacturing. Strict personnel control: Before entering, personnel must wear dedicated anti-static clean suits, masks, gloves, and shoe covers, and undergo air showering to prevent bringing outside pollutants into the room. Static protection: Comprehensive static protection measures will be taken in the workshop, such as using anti-static flooring and installing static eliminators, to prevent damage to precision electronic components caused by static electricity. In summary, the yellow light cleanroom is a product of the combination of process requirements and humanistic design. Through precise spectral control and extreme environmental management, it provides indispensable guarantees for the manufacturing of chips and other high-tech products.
