Selection of flooring materials for cleanrooms

2026/6/11

The selection of flooring materials for cleanrooms should be based on five core principles: cleanliness level, anti-static requirements, resistance to chemical corrosion, wear resistance, and ease of cleaning. At the same time, special requirements of the usage scenarios (such as laboratories, semiconductor factories, and pharmaceutical workshops) should also be taken into consideration.
The following are the technical parameters, applicable scenarios, and selection suggestions for mainstream flooring materials, providing a structured reference for scheme design and project decision-making:
01    Core Performance Requirements for Cleanroom Floor Materials
Cleanliness: No particle shedding, no gaps for dust accumulation, smooth surface for easy cleaning, meeting the cleanliness standards of ISO 14644 (such as 100-level, 1000-level, 10,000-level) requirements.
Anti-static property: In semiconductor and electronic workshops, the surface resistance needs to be controlled within the range of 10⁶ to 10¹¹ Ω to prevent static electricity from attracting dust or causing breakdown of components.
Corrosion resistance: In pharmaceutical and chemical laboratories, it must be able to withstand long-term erosion from acids, alkalis, and organic solvents, without discoloration, bulging, or cracking.
Durability: It meets the frequent usage requirements such as people walking, carts rolling, and equipment transportation, and has a service life of ≥ 5 years.
Construction adaptability: Seamless construction is possible, and it closely connects with wall surfaces, floor drains, baseboards and other joints, avoiding accumulation of dust in any blind spots.
02  Comparison and Selection of Mainstream Cleanroom Floor Materials

03    Precise Scenarios-Based Selection Strategy
Electronic / Semiconductor Clean Room
Core requirements: Anti-static + High cleanliness; Recommended materials: PVC anti-static floor (thousand-level), ceramic anti-static floor (hundred-level).
Additional requirement: The floor must be connected to the grounding system, and the surface resistance fluctuation should be within ±1 order of magnitude.
Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology Laboratory Cleanroom
Core requirements: Resistance to chemical corrosion + Easy disinfection + Seamless.
Recommended materials: Polyurethane mortar floor, epoxy resin self-leveling (chemically resistant type);
Additional requirements: Must comply with GMP standards, have a smooth surface without pores, and be resistant to alcohol and hydrogen peroxide disinfection.
Ordinary laboratory / Class 100 clean workshop
Core requirements: Low cost + Easy maintenance;
Recommended material: Ordinary epoxy resin self-leveling floor;
Additional requirement: A dust-proof mat should be placed at the entrance, and regular waxing maintenance should be carried out to extend the service life.
High-temperature / Heavy-load Clean Area
Core requirements: High temperature resistance + High load-bearing capacity;
Recommended materials: Polyurethane mortar floor, ceramic anti-static floor;
Additional requirement: The ground needs to be treated for anti-slip (with a friction coefficient of ≥ 0.5) to prevent equipment from slipping during transportation.
04 Key Points for Construction and Acceptance
Base treatment: The ground base needs to be flat (with a flatness error of ≤ 2mm/2m), dry (with a moisture content of ≤ 8%), and free of cracks and chipping.
Seamless construction: For epoxy resin and polyurethane materials, the integral self-leveling process should be adopted; for PVC and ceramic floors, special sealant should be used to fill the joints to prevent dust accumulation.
Acceptance criteria:
Cleanliness: The number of dust particles meets the requirements of the corresponding cleanliness level.
Anti-static property: The coverage rate of surface resistance test points is 100%, and the pass rate is ≥ 98%.
Durability: No obvious scratches were observed during the wear resistance test (5,000 cycles).
